Why VIP as a nasal spray
VIP is a neuropeptide found throughout the body, in the gut, lungs and nervous system. It helps regulate blood vessels, immune responses and inflammation. Its research profile is closer to immunology than to sports recovery.
Intranasal VIP is best known from functional-medicine protocols for chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), usually linked to living or working in water-damaged, mouldy buildings. Those protocols are nasal by design. Separately, a synthetic form of VIP, aviptadil, has been studied by IV and inhaled routes in severe respiratory illness.

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) is a neuropeptide with wide-ranging roles in vasodilation, immune modulation and anti-inflammatory signalling. The main reason people look for VIP as a nasal spray. It is used in these protocols after other steps, as part of a longer programme.
Aviptadil
A 2025 meta-analysis pooled the aviptadil (synthetic VIP) trials in acute respiratory distress syndrome. Those trials used IV and inhaled routes, not the nose.
Where the evidence is thin
The intranasal CIRS work comes mainly from clinical practice and has little in PubMed-indexed controlled trials. The indexed human data on VIP mostly uses other routes. It is also the most expensive spray in the range, so know which body of evidence you are relying on before you buy.

Using a nasal spray properly

Prime the pump
Before the first use, pump into the air until a fine, even mist comes out. Those first few sprays are not counted in the bottle total.

Clear your nose
Blow your nose gently first. A congested nose absorbs poorly and more of the spray runs straight out.

Aim away from the middle
Tilt your head slightly forward and point the nozzle toward the outer wall of the nostril, not the septum.

Breathe in gently
Press once while breathing in softly through the nose. A hard sniff pulls the spray down the throat instead of leaving it in the nose.

Alternate nostrils
Between sprays, alternate nostrils. That spreads the dose over more of the nasal lining.
Storage
Keep the bottle upright with the cap on, and in the fridge once opened. The amber glass protects the solution from light, but not from heat: don’t leave it in a parked car or a sunny window, especially in a South African summer. Don’t freeze it, and don’t share a nozzle between people.
