Why Selank as a nasal spray
Selank, like Semax, came out of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is used there as nasal drops. Its appeal is a combination that conventional anxiolytics rarely manage: an effect on anxiety without sedation, and without the dependence that limits benzodiazepines. The spray delivers it the way that clinical experience was gathered.
Route matters more for Selank than you might expect. A 2016 mouse study compared intranasal and intraperitoneal dosing and found the anxiolytic and nootropic effects under both, but with different receptor changes in the brain — NMDA binding shifted after intranasal dosing, GABA binding after injection. The authors put the difference down to how the peptide is absorbed and broken down by each route.
About Selank
Selank is a synthetic analogue of tuftsin, an immunomodulatory peptide, engineered for improved stability and CNS penetration. Like Semax, it emerged from Russian peptide research and has been studied for anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties that researchers report occur without the sedation or dependency profile associated with benzodiazepines.
Studies have looked at its effect on cortisol dynamics and generalised anxiety symptoms, alongside a mild nootropic profile. That combination — calm without sedation — is the throughline of the research and of this spray’s positioning.

Published findings, not promised outcomes. Studies are listed under Sources below.
Compared with a benzodiazepine
Zozulia et al. (2008) treated 62 patients with generalised anxiety disorder or neurasthenia with Selank or medazepam. Anxiolytic effects were similar; Selank also showed anti-asthenic and mildly stimulating effects.
Enkephalin activity
The same study linked Selank to changes in serum enkephalin activity, the body's own opioid-like peptides — one proposed mechanism for its anxiolytic effect.
Route-dependent effects
The 2016 mouse comparison is a reminder that intranasal results cannot simply be assumed from injection data, or the other way round.
Where the evidence is thin
The clinical trials are Russian, modest in size, and published mainly in Russian-language journals. The anxiety research is promising, but it is a long way from the large, independently replicated trials behind registered anxiolytics elsewhere.
Spray, vial or pen
Selank comes in all three formats. The compound is the same; what changes is the preparation and how it goes in.

Using a nasal spray properly
- 1
Prime the pump
Before the first use, pump into the air until a fine, even mist comes out. Those first few sprays are not counted in the bottle total.
- 2
Clear your nose
Blow your nose gently first. A congested nose absorbs poorly and more of the spray runs straight out.
- 3
Aim away from the middle
Tilt your head slightly forward and point the nozzle toward the outer wall of the nostril, not the septum.
- 4
Breathe in gently
Press once while breathing in softly through the nose. A hard sniff pulls the spray down the throat instead of leaving it in the nose.
- 5
Alternate nostrils
Between sprays, alternate nostrils. That spreads the dose over more of the nasal lining.
Storage
Keep the bottle upright with the cap on, and in the fridge once opened. The amber glass protects the solution from light, but not from heat: don’t leave it in a parked car or a sunny window, especially in a South African summer. Don’t freeze it, and don’t share a nozzle between people.
