About Glutathione
Glutathione is a tripeptide your liver makes continuously and depletes under oxidative stress, alcohol, illness and age. It is central to phase II liver detoxification and to recycling other antioxidants, which is why it is described as the master antioxidant rather than one of several.
Oral glutathione has been a contested subject for decades. Much of it is broken down in the gut, although a 2015 randomised trial found that daily oral doses did raise the body’s glutathione stores over six months. A reconstitution vial bypasses the gut entirely, which is why it is priced by the hundreds of milligrams rather than the tens.

Antioxidant capacity
Neutralising free radicals directly and regenerating vitamins C and E, which is the mechanism behind most of its other reported uses.
Liver support
Central to phase II detoxification, and the context in which glutathione has the longest clinical history.
Skin tone
The most common reason it is bought here: glutathione is studied for its effect on melanin synthesis and even skin tone.
What the research does not show
The limits of the evidence, stated as plainly as the findings.
- Reliable skin-lightening or “detox” effects from injections.
- That high-dose IV glutathione stays in the blood. A 1991 study found it cleared within minutes.
- The safety of unregulated IV products. Serious reactions have been reported, including a 2025 case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome after IV glutathione with vitamins.
Reconstitution and storage
Glutathione is one of two catalogue items with a 10 mL reconstitution limit rather than the usual 3 mL — the vials hold so much material that a standard volume would make the solution impractically concentrated. The 600mg vial with 6 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 100mg/mL. The reconstitution calculator has the limit built in. Unopened vials are stable at room temperature in transit but belong in a fridge once they arrive, and out of a parked car in a Highveld summer.
