About 5-Amino-1MQ
NNMT — nicotinamide N-methyltransferase — is an enzyme in fat cells that regulates how fast they burn energy. Its activity rises in obesity, which creates a feedback loop: more fat tissue, more NNMT, slower metabolism in exactly the cells you want working harder. 5-Amino-1MQ is an NNMT inhibitor, and the research interest is in breaking that loop.
It is a different proposition from the GLP-1 drugs that dominate this category. Those work on appetite and gastric emptying — they make eating less easier. 5-Amino-1MQ acts inside the fat cell on how energy is used, with no appetite mechanism at all.
