There is no unified standard that all suppliers must meet. There is a market, and within that market there is a wide range of quality — from genuinely rigorous, third-party-tested product to reconstituted powder of unknown origin that may not be what it claims to be.

Why Quality Varies So Much
Most peptides sold in South Africa are sourced from overseas manufacturers — primarily synthesis laboratories in China, the United States and Europe. The quality of the raw material depends on the manufacturer's standards, the testing protocols applied and the handling through the supply chain.
Some suppliers import rigorously manufactured, third-party-tested peptides and store them correctly. Others import the cheapest available material with minimal verification and limited cold chain management.
The prices may look similar. The products are not.
The Non-Negotiables: What Every Supplier Must Provide
A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from an independent laboratory
This is the most important document in peptide sourcing. A CoA is a report from a third-party laboratory — not the manufacturer, not the supplier — confirming the identity, purity and absence of contaminants in the product.
A reputable CoA will include:
- HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) results showing purity percentage
- Mass spectrometry confirming compound identity
- Results for common contaminants including bacterial endotoxins
- Batch number that matches the product you are receiving
If a supplier cannot provide this, or provides a CoA from their own internal testing rather than an independent laboratory, that is a red flag.
Purity of 98% or higher
Research-grade peptides should be at minimum 98% pure. Some high-quality suppliers reach 99%+. Anything below 98% means a meaningful percentage of what you are injecting is an unknown substance.
Correct physical form
Quality lyophilised peptides arrive as white, slightly crystalline powder in sealed vials. They are fragile — they degrade at room temperature and are sensitive to light and humidity. If a product arrives pre-mixed, is visibly discoloured or has been stored at room temperature for an extended period, its integrity is in question.
Supply Chain and Storage
Peptides are not like protein powder. They require:
Cold chain storage — ideally refrigerated (2–8°C) for medium-term storage, or frozen (−20°C) for long-term preservation. A supplier who does not maintain temperature control is selling you degraded product.
Light protection — peptides in clear vials should be stored away from direct light. Most quality products are supplied in amber or UV-protected vials.
Nitrogen or vacuum sealing — oxidation degrades peptide chains. Quality vials are sealed under inert gas or vacuum to protect the contents.
Ask your supplier directly: how are your products stored? How are they shipped? A supplier who cannot answer these questions clearly does not have a supply chain you should trust.

No CoA, or a CoA that looks like it was made internally
Independent testing is the standard. If they cannot prove purity through a named laboratory, do not buy.
Prices dramatically below market rate
Quality peptide synthesis, third-party testing and proper cold chain handling all cost money. If the price seems too good to be true, the corners being cut are likely in the quality assurance.
Implausible medical or therapeutic claims
"Guaranteed to heal your shoulder in two weeks." "Clinically proven for weight loss." These claims are either misleading or outright false. Responsible suppliers present compounds as research products with realistic explanations of the available evidence.
No physical address, no direct communication
You should be able to reach your supplier. A supplier with no contact details beyond an order form is not a supplier with accountability.
No information about reconstitution, dosing or protocols
A responsible supplier will offer information to help you use products safely. Not prescriptions — but clear, honest educational content. If a supplier just takes your money and ships a vial with no information, that is a problem.
